7, 8 and 9-axis robots
A robot that travels or hangs to reach end to end on parts several meters long.
Ideal for: Welding beams, columns, trailer chassis and long or tall steel structures.

- Total axes
- 7–9
- The robot travels
- Rail
- The robot hangs
- Gantry
- The part turns
- Positioner
What sets it apart
Why choose this robot
A 7, 8 or 9-axis robot is almost always a 6-axis robot with external axes that the controller moves in coordination: a rail that carries it along the part, a gantry it hangs from, or a positioner that turns the part while it welds. It is the configuration used for beams, trailer chassis, columns and structures that do not fit within a fixed robot's reach.
More reach
The rail or gantry carries the robot along the whole part.
Better position
The positioner turns the part so it always welds flat or at a comfortable angle.
Coordinated motion
The controller moves the external axes together with the arm, as one robot.
Two stations
While it welds one part, the next is loaded: the robot does not wait.
What it is used for
Typical applications
Solutions with this robot
- Welding beams, columns and steel structures
- Trailer and agricultural machinery chassis
- Tending several machines or stations with one robot
- Welding with the part turned to the best position
Clear expectations
What it can and cannot do
It can
- Weld parts that do not fit within a fixed robot's reach.
- Turn the part to weld seams on every face.
- Tend several machines or stations with the same robot.
It cannot
- Compensate on its own for badly fitted parts: it needs tracking or vision.
- Be installed without room for the rail or gantry and its travel.
- Be chosen without simulating the largest part to be welded.

Examples we integrate

Photos from manufacturers we work with. Model, configuration and availability are defined in each project. The configuration (rail, gantry, positioner and travel of each axis) is defined by the part size and validated with a simulation before quoting.
